A hub for green energy
The regulatory framework on environmental issues in Puglia is among the most innovative in Italy and in Europe. The regional government was a forerunner of national legislation, introducing pioneering policies, over 20 years ago, to promote the self-generation of electricity, as well as energy saving measures for buildings, reducing the environmental impact.
More recently, Regione Puglia has advanced legislation to promote and accelerate decarbonisation and actively supports the creation of regional Hydrogen Valleys.

Puglia also leads the way in the production of wind energy, accounting for 26.4% of national production, thanks to the presence of 1,393 wind energy plants across the region. Production is expected to continue to rise thanks to an increasing number of projects for offshore wind farms.
